Trying out the Pirastro Perpetual set on my bass.
Просмотров 2,2 тыс.10 месяцев назад
First, I swapped out the Spiro Weichs that came on this bass for a set of Zyex, they sounded okay, but I wasn't nuts about the feel on the E and A. I finally decided to give the new Pirastro Perpetual set a shot. This is the standard set, no Stark D or G. I think these are the ones!
WORKING THE GROOVEYARD SHIFT!!
Просмотров 1,7 тыс.Год назад
In this example, you will interpret an 8th note bass pattern with straight and swing 8th note feels. Once you have each feel solid individually, shift from one to the other. The real work happens internally, but ultimately, we use the metronome to show us how the pulse remains consistent as we shift gears. I've been accused of making up solutions to problems that don't exist in music. This exam...
METRONOME CHALLENGE #2. CAN YOU HANG???
Просмотров 1,6 тыс.Год назад
The pdf for this lesson is available free at edfriedland.com/lessons. edfriedland.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/GrooveWkshp.pdf Don't believe people that tell you working with a metronome is a waste of your efforts. If you have trouble keeping time, the simplest route to fixing it is to learn to play with the click. If you can't play with a click, you won't keep time without it. Simple as that...
METRONOME TORTURE TEST!!!! CAN YOU HANDLE IT??????
Просмотров 2 тыс.Год назад
Here's a set of very simple practices with the metronome. 1) Set your click at 60bpm, then play half notes on Beats 1&3. Simple right? 2) Then make it a quarter note on 1&3 3) 8th note 4) 8th triplet 5) 16th Pay attention not only to the placement of the downbeat, but on the length of each note and how YOU feel during the gap. You have to groove the rests just as much as the notes. Why do this?...
THE BEST 5-STRING JAZZ BASS EVER???!!!!

The Modern Vintage MVJ5-75 may very well be the best 5-string J Bass ever made (in the $2K price range for sure!). It plays and sounds just like Leo Fender's original 1975 5-string Jazz. Wait... he never made one of those.... THIS is the 5-string J bass you WISH he created. modernvintageguitars.com Use discount code "edfriedland" for $200 off any Modern Vintage instrument.

FINGERSTYLE Modern Vintage MVJ5-75!!!

Both pickups, tone open for some nasty finger style. Notice how the texture opens up on the long, sustained notes, then clamps down for the staccato. Modern Vintage instruments are responsive to your dynamics, they go where you point them. They can thump, or they can growl, and they are priced well below the boutique builders they compare with. SLAP SAMPLE MODERN VINTAGE MVJ5-75
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.Год назад
Both pickups full up, tone wide open. Sometimes I play the low E open, sometimes on the B string. You can hear a tonal difference, but they are balanced. This bass has a balanced response, all the way across the neck - just like the other two Modern Vintage instruments I own. I've played several other MV instruments, and they ALL had that fundamental "note integrity", and played evenly like a w...

How time flies - watched this review when it came out 14 years ago, and bought both the bass envelope filter and the carbon copy delay as a result. Already had the MXR bass octave as a result of Ed’s previous review of it. Have enjoyed this pedal trio to bits and all three are still on my pedal board! Thank you Ed for all the amazing reviews and over all inspiration over the years, you’re really one of the best.👍✨

This Is the best managing e string ... without distortion tight sound. At home Is very nonsense playing more for of light cabs. The gr head has top defined sound with effective undistorted regulations. The Cab sound Is pretty tight...if you like warm sound Is not for you. Perfect for slapping.

That's the nicest looking non-Fender headstock I've seen on a non-Fender. Cool basses. I've wanted a Jazz Bass with a 3rd pickup by the neck for some time. I think a J-Bass with a proper neck pickup would sound righteous, and 3-pickup bass would be fun. Has anyone out there done such a modification?

Just leaving this here, as everyone seems to sing LaBella's praises. In my experience they are wildly inconsistent, and in a pack there is always something funky (even though my sample size is fairly small). I'm saying this for both bass and guitar strings. A strange untraceable buzz, one string that's much more quiet than the rest, a string with peculiar length compared to the others, etc. I tried 3 packs in total, will stick to other manufacturers. They seem as if there ways much handwork included in making them, but the manufacturer didn't really care too much.

Excellent video. I bought a Tribute when it arrived it had scratches over the entire back and sides. It should have never left the factory. But the playability and sound were excellent. I sent it back and now have the opportunity to go for either the American or the Tribute. Sounds like you are not feeling / hearing a lot of difference in the two, is the American version worth the high price? Please let me know, really need help deciding. Thanks!
